Cloverdale resident Scott Richardson landed a nice king salmon on Sunday while fishing the Smith River. The late-fall king salmon run is nearing the end on North Coast rivers, with the arrival of winter steelhead right around the corner.

Craig Nunley of Caldwell, Idaho, holds a chrome-bright king salmon caught Nov. 27 on the Smith River with guide Andy Martin of Wild Rivers Fishing. The Smith has only been open to fishing a few days this fall due to low-flow closures. That should change this weekend as heavy rains are in the forecast.
